The majority of municipality decision-makers do not believe in quick employment of immigrants in the country, found a survey conducted by the regional news consortium Lännen Median.

According to the appraisal of just over half of the respondents, the majority of the immigrants will be employed in a decade or remain permanently unemployed.

Only seven per cent of the respondents thought that immigrants would be able to find employment quickly.

Supporters of the Perussuomalaiset (Finns Party) were the most sceptical about employment of the immigrants, while Vihreä liitto (Green League) supporters were most optimistic.

Seventy-seven per cent of Finns Party respondents believed that immigrants will not be employed in the country.  On the other hand, 71 per cent of the Green League supporters believed the majority of immigrants will be employed in five years.

The survey was answered by a total of 1,778 city and municipal councillors in different parts of the country.
