The postal labour dispute may stretch out for a long time and affect many areas.

Thomas Aarto, deputy chief executive officer of the employers’ association Palta, said he is mentally prepared that the labour dispute may not be resolved until next year.

Employees’ representative and PAU (Postal and Logistics Service Union) Chairman Heidi Nieminen, however, does not believe the strike will continue, if the dispute is not resolved soon.

PAU has now announced strikes until December 4. The PAU strike began on November 19 and they have asked other SAK (Central Organisation of Finnish Trade Unions) employees to support the union in collective labour dispute.

The Transport Workers’ Union (AKT) and the Finnish Seamen’s Union will decide on Monday what actions they are taking in support of the postal workers.

Support for the strike or other support measures must be announced four days in advance. So the support actions for the strike would begin on Friday at the earliest.
