The unemployment rate was 8.7 per cent in October 2015, having been 8.3 per cent during the cor-responding month one year before, according to Statistics Finland’s Labour Force Survey.
 
The number of unemployed persons was 234,000, which was 14,000 higher than a year ago.
 
There were 29,000 more employed than in October of the previous year. The number of persons in the inactive population was 35,000 lower than one year earlier, the data show.
 
In October 2015, the number of employed persons was 2,448,000, which was 29,000 higher than a year earlier.
 
There were 27,000 more employed women and nearly as many more employed men as in October 2014.
 
In October 2015, the employment rate, that is, the proportion of the employed among persons aged 15 to 64, stood at 68.4 per cent, which was 0.8 percentage points higher than one year before.

Women's employment rate rose by 1.7 percentage points to 68.7 per cent while men's employment rate was 68.0 per cent and remained almost unchanged.
 
Adjusted for seasonal and random variation, the trend of the employment rate was 68.7 per cent.
 
The number of unemployed men was 124,000 and that of women 110,000. There were 9,000 fewer unemployed men and 23,000 more unemployed women compared with October 2014.
 
In October 2015, there were a total of 642,000 young people aged 15 to 24. Of them, 230,000 were employed and 50,000 were unemployed. Thus, the labour force of young people totalled 279,000 as per the statistics.
 
At the end of October 2015, there were a total of 338,000 persons registered in accordance with the Employment Office Regulations as job seekers at the employment and economic development of-fices. The number of unemployed job seekers was 18,000 higher than in October 2014.
 
The number of unemployed job seekers increased in the areas of all Employment and Economic Development Centres apart from Kainuu (–7%), most in Uusimaa (12%), South Savo (8%), and North Savo (7%).
 
At the end of October, the number of temporarily laid off persons registered at the employment and economic development offices was 22,000, which was 1,000 fewer than twelve months earlier.
 
The number of persons engaged in services included in the activation rate totalled 121,000 at the end of October, which was 9,000 fewer than in October of the previous year.
 
Altogether, 4.5 per cent of the labour force was covered by labour market policy services.
