The Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (Social Democratic Party of Finland-SDP) in its shadow budget has proposed introduction of buffer funds, the so-called EMU buffers, in the occupational pension scheme and the unemployment insurance system to boost the economy.

The main opposition SDP has also proposed reducing employers’ and employees’ pension contributions by a total of 0.8 percentage points over the period 2016-2018.

This way, the employees’ purchasing power would be increased. The contribution would afterwards be reinstated to their normal levels in the 2020s, said SDP.

Furthermore, SDP has proposed increasing the capital gain tax by two percentage points.

In addition, the opposition party has suggested that together with Sweden, the country should establish a common bank tax which would generate 230 million euros a year.

The party would also invest 600 million euros in growth and employment.
