Friday marked the International Buy Nothing Day. The day is intentionally scheduled as the same day as Black Friday, which is the largest sales day of the year in the US, as a criticism against consumerism.
According to the Finnish Nature League, Buy Nothing Day challenges people to reflect on their behavior as consumers and their environmental impact. Some events and happenings are being held in some cities today on that theme, continuing in the following weeks on behalf of the Sustainable Christmas campaign.
Buy Nothing Day began in Canada in the early 1990s.
