A fire broke out at a thermal power plant on Wednesday morning destroyed a warehouse in Padasjoki, southern Finland, reported Finnish language tabloid Iltalehti.
The fierce blaze completely burnt down the 1,000-square meter warehouse, where a large amount of wood chips were stored. The central part of the plant was also partially destroyed.
According to rescue service, the fire caused no casualties and posed no danger to the environment. However, the heating supply has been interrupted. It was estimated that more than 1,000 local residents were left without heating.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
The power plant, located in an industrial area of Padasjoki, is a wood chip heating plant, which provides heating to the central area of the town.
