Mon, 07 Dec, 2015 05:00:56 AM FTimes Report by Antti karjala, Dec 7 FTimes Photo The Lappish Centre for Economic Development (ELY) has funded 98 enterprises and projects with about 3.6 million euros in September to November this year, said an ELY survey report.
On the other hand, the centre in the autumn months has made acquisitions of approximately 400,000 euros.
The funding as usual has been partly EU-based and partly national financial aid, which together is part of an EU programme for 2014-2020 aimed at improving the national economy, the report said.
One of the most widely scaled projects funded by the ELY centre this autumn is a patient caretaker education based at the Lapland Vocational School in Ivalo being implemented with 208,022 euros.
The biggest support sum of 677,040 euros was given to the Olavi Pokka Oy project to build vacation housing in the Santa Village of the Arctic Circle.
The second most significant sum of 393,624 euros was received by a plan to “raise the overall level of know-how in academic experts in Lapland,” a plan constructed by the University of Lapland.
The core of the plan is to add internationality and improve quality of doctoral training by integrating international experts and supporting international seminar attendances of doctoral students.
At the same time, the level of employment in doctoral students will be raised by adding to the students’ collaboration with businesses and employers.
According to the ELY-based survey, ELY centres across Finland have continued to fund an exceptional amount of travelling in Lapland this year.
The end of the year now poses a lot of last-minute work for the ELY centre, as last of the funding granted between the years 2007 and 2013 are being transferred into accounts of the grant receivers.
“These last months of the year are always the most intense,” said Marja-Liisa Kivilompolo, head of payment and inspection unit at the Lapland ELY centre.
