Post-Christmas discount sale has begun on Sunday after the Christmas holidays.

The busiest day of sales is expected at the start of this week, said Tuula Loikkanen, Manager,   Public Policy and Advocacy of Finnish Commerce Federation.

Even though, the number of Russian tourists has dropped drastically in the past few years, they are still an important tourist group.

Loikkanen hopes that the number of Russian shoppers would no longer fall from last year's fig-ures.

The presence of Chinese shoppers recently has also become more evident than in the past.

According to Loikkanen, the post-Christmas discount sales tradition has somewhat fallen off since different discount campaigns run throughout the year. The season is, however, still im-portant for shops.

According to Loikkanen, the majority of businesses will launch discount sales on intervening days because shops want to take advantage of people being free.

According to Finnish Commerce Federation estimation, this year's consumption will be at the same level as last year. However, due to low prices the turnover will slightly decrease.
