According to Metsola, above all there is a big lack of studio apartments.
In Helsinki alone, there are 150,000 single tenants, but there are only 65,000 single-room apart-ments. Those living alone tend to repay exorbitantly for the loans or rents.
“It is so expensive that people compete for who can get into a studio,” said Metsola.
Shortage of rental apartments subsidized by the state or the municipality is also a suffering in the housing sector.
“When we go through economic difficulties, there are certain group [of people] whose housing situation is wholly dependent upon society,” said Metsola.
