The decline in residential rent prices does not extend to studio or small two-room apartments, said rental property agency Vuokraturva CEO Timo Metsola.

According to Metsola, above all there is a big lack of studio apartments.

In Helsinki alone, there are 150,000 single tenants, but there are only 65,000 single-room apart-ments. Those living alone tend to repay exorbitantly for the loans or rents.

“It is so expensive that people compete for who can get into a studio,” said Metsola.

Shortage of rental apartments subsidized by the state or the municipality is also a suffering in the housing sector.

“When we go through economic difficulties, there are certain group [of people] whose housing situation is wholly dependent upon society,” said Metsola.
