First registrations increased by 18.0 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year, according to Statistics Finland.
The number of new passenger cars registered in December was 11.7 per cent up from the year before.
The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 40.3 per cent as per the data based on the Vehicular and Driver Data Register of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency.
The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.

Compared to the year before, there was a decrease of 0.8 per cent.
The number of passenger cars first registered in the January to December period was 108,812, which was 2.4 per cent up from the year before.
The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to December period were Volkswagen, Toyota and Skoda, the data show.
