Furniture company Ikea will acquire the Kemi Ajos wind mill with the view to increase the power production from the plant to double after a renovation.
Ikea partner OX2 has started construction on the wind farm, which should be completed next year. After the renovation, ownership will move to Ikea.
All of the farm's 10 wind turbines will be dismantled and replaced with new equipment.
In addition, there will be construction of three new wind turbines. Ikea estimates they will produce approximately 160 GWh per year from wind power in Kemi.
"We will generate at least enough power from renewable wind energy as all our department stores and other operations consume in Finland," said Finland's Ikea country manager Lars Midttun.
Ikea has invested 1.5 billion euros in renewable energy since 2009.
