The government on Friday decided to grant euro 600 million for the development of the railway and road infrastructure.
 
Out of the euro 600 millions, euro 325 million will be used to repair road surfaces and structures.
 
In addition, the Ministry of Transport has decided to transfer euro 364 million from its development projects on basic bus services during the present government’s term. 
 
The use of this sum will be determined later.
 
A total of euro 223 million will be used for improving the railways and euro12 mil-lion has been reserved for the repair of waterways, of which euro nine million will go for the renewal of the Saimaa canal lock gates. 
 
In addition, euro 35 million will be allocated toward new digital technologies and new services.
 
Road surfacing, road structures and equipment, bridges in poor condition, railway superstructures and gears, the electrical and safety devices for railways, as well as interlocking equipment, marshalling yards and raw timber terminals, sea lanes se-curity and canal technology are the areas named by Transport and Communication Minister Anne Berner.
