FTimes – STT Report, Feb 13

Finance Minister Alexander Stubb on Friday raised the issue of Electricity Company Caruna tax planning during the European Union Finance Ministers' meeting in Brussels.

Technology Company Apple aggressive tax planning was also discussed during the Finance Ministers' meeting which had tax evasion as the agenda.

According to Stubb, the goal is to prevent erosion of the tax base and that companies should be taxed where they have operations and generate income.

Stubb said that Finland supports the European Commission and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) efforts to push forward anti-tax evasion measures.

The measures, however, include many details related to taxation so the preparation may take a long time, said Stubb.

The ball is now in the court of the European Commission to take the initiative to enact law in this regard.

Stubb expressed hope that the issue will be addressed during the next Finance Ministers' meeting.
