Companies may offer work experience and professional training to asylum seekers during their application process through a new mobile phone service.

The service is initially seeking companies with approximately 50 open internship and job placements.

The “Recommend a Refugee” service aims to support asylum seekers with finding light employment. This may be, for example, training, volunteer work or employment.

As compensation for the work, the service hopes that the companies will provide asylum seekers with a minimum of free transportation, a meal and a certificate of the work done.

The service has been developed in Finland and the Netherlands.

In Finland, the Red Cross administers the service in cooperation with the Swedish language newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet and the marketing company SEK.
