Closure of refugee reception centres
FTimes-STT Report, Apr 2

The Finnish Red Cross (SPR) will start codetermination negotiations affected hundreds of employees due to the closure of refugee reception centres, reported Finnish language daily Savon Sanomat.

The Finnish Immigration Service has decided to close a total of 33 reception centres due to the reduction of asylum seekers.

More than 7,000 places for accommodation will be cut off, of which about 5000 are operated by the Red Cross.

In all, it totals about one-third of all places for accommodation. The centres have hired about 1,500 employees since last autumn.

According to SPR director Marita Salo, the number of employees will be significantly reduced, but the precise numbers are not yet known.

She said it has always been clear that the jobs at the reception centers would not be permanent and the centres would be shut down when the need for accommodations is reduced.
