The power plant's output will be interrupted for repairs next Monday. The shutdown is scheduled to last about a week. The damaged fuel rods released some radioactive substances into the reactor water, but posed no danger to the environment. “Fuel damage is detected at nuclear power plants every now and then. Radioactive releases affect the radiation doses of the plant employees. Careful work planning and scheduling ensures that the accumulated radiation doses of the personnel remain low, despite the situation,” said Mikko Kosonen, Senior Vice President, Electricity Production in a statement. According to Kosonen, careful planning and scheduling results in accumulation of low doses of radiation by personnel. The reactor core has a total of about five hundred fuel assemblies, and each element holds approximately one hundred fuel rods.
