The mobile phone roaming charges fell on Saturday to a quarter of the current cost in the European Union countries.

On outgoing calls, roaming charges are now a maximum of 0.05 euro per mi-nute instead of 0.19 euro per minute.

Roaming prices for text messages and data are also falling. The aim of the EU Commission is that roaming charges will be eliminated completely in June of next year.

“This is not just about Europeans saving money. This is to reduce barriers in the common digital market,” said the EU Commission Vice President responsible for the common digital market, Andrus Ansip.

Roaming charges raise the price for calls received, sending SMS messages and data transfer rates across borders.
