Dock workers at the port operator Euroports Rauma on Tuesday marched out of the port.
Chief shop steward Ari Juhola told the news agency STT that workers on Tuesday’s evening shift walked out of the workplace. The repair shop’s evening shift also walked out.
About 100 employees participated in the walkout. The walkout is related to, among other things, stevedoring operations. According to Juhola, Wednesday’s morning shift workers will decide for themselves whether to participate in the protest.
The walkout was triggered by the port operator’s decision to sell machine maintenance and repair to an external company. The outsourcing affects 26 employees.
According to Juhola, the news of the outsourcing came as a complete surprise to the employees. He pointed out that outsourcing poses the risks the weakening of working conditions and wages, among other things.
Juhola said the next to follow will be the Transport Workers Union, which will begin negotiations on employment terms and the collective agreement with the employer.
The matter was previously reported by the Finnish language news outlet Satakunnan Kansa.
