The number of new passenger cars registered in April 2016 was 11,085, which was 15 per cent up from the year before, according to Statistics Finland.
 
A total of 18,683 new motor vehicles were registered, of which 12,588 were automobiles in April.
 
First registrations increased by 10.3 per cent from the corresponding month of the previous year.
 
The share of new diesel-driven passenger cars was 33.3 per cent as per the data based on the Vehicular and Driver Data Register of the Finnish Transport Safety Agency.
 
The numbers are exclusive of the vehicles on the Åland Islands.
 
In the January to April period of 2016, a total of 65,929 vehicles were first registered. Compared to the year before, there was an increase of 8.2 per cent.
 
The number of passenger cars first registered in the January to April period was 44,189, which is 13.3 per cent up from the year before.
 
The most common passenger car makes first registered in the January to April period were Volkswagen, Toyota and Skoda, the data show.
