There is no need for the Finnish labour market to panic following the British referendum results, said Chairman of the Central Organization of Finnish Trade Unions (SAK) Jarkko Eloranta.

Eloranta, however, thinks that the Brexit vote will weaken the position of employees and income at least in the short term.

The European Union should now evaluate its measures and cannot continue as in the past, Eloranta said.

According to the SAK chair, the union must now consider how it can strengthen its social cohesion, conditions for economic growth and public services.

Eloranta said that the EU should set question related to movement at the top of the reform.

The whole of Europe is now closely watching what would happen to the British economy and the union.

“Hopefully the union and the whole machinery are thinking how legitimacy in eyes of the European Union citizens would be strengthened so that there would be no need to organise such kind of refer-endum or that the results would be otherwise,” Eloranta said.
