Turnover in manufacturing in the February to April period was 1.9 per cent lower than in the corresponding period of the year before according to Statistics Finland.

Domestic sales grew by 0.4 per cent and export turnover contracted by 3.5 per cent from one year ago.

The turnover went down from the corresponding period of the previous year in nearly all manufacturing sub-industries.

The turnover contracted most in the chemical industry, by 7.9 per cent, in the electrical and electronics industry, by 3.4 per cent, and in the metal industry, by 3.3 per cent, the data show.

More turnover than in the previous year was generated only in the forest industry, 3.4 per cent, and in the textile, clothing and leather industry, 1.5 per cent. 

In the main categories of other industries, the turnover in water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities increased by 0.9 per cent, and that of mining and quarrying by 0.2 per cent from one year before.

In turn, the turnover contracted from the previous year in the industry of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply, by 2.8 per cent.

The index of turnover in industry describes enterprises whose main industry is manufacturing.
