The value of Finnish exports fell by six percent in May, 2016 compared to the total exports value in the stipulated period of previous year, according to the statistics on foreign trade of Customs department.

The value of exports amounted to 4.3 billion euros in May, said Customs, adding that the drop is due to the continued decline both of export volume and export prices.

The decline of the graph in volume has flattened since April, but the decline in export prices was almost as steep.

In May, exports to European Union countries fell by nine percent, by three percent outside the EU, and by six percent to Russia, compared to the previous year.

Imports increased by five percent in May, 2016 worth just over 4.4 billion euros.

The trade balance was 125 million euros in deficit in May. In May of last year, the trade balance amounted to 391 million euros in surplus.
