The power transmission grid operator Fingrid has begun renovating the grid network, reported a Finnish language daily, the Keskisuomalainen.

The renewal of the grid is expected to remain good for the next 10 years.

Fingrid’s electricity grid consists of 14,000 kilometres of transmission lines and more than 100 power stations.

The renovation project will cost approximately 1.2 billion euros.

The country’s first electricity transmission lines were installed in 1920s.

The idea was that the lines would last for the next “hundred years.”

Regional differences in production and levels of consumption, among other things, have also led to the grid renewal.
