FTimes Report, Aug 27

Building permits were granted for a total of 12.9 million cubic metres in April to June 2016, which is 19.5 per cent more than one year ago, according to Statistics Finland.

The growth was mostly attributable to building permits granted for residential buildings and public service buildings.

The cubic volume covered by permits granted for residential buildings grew by 15.1 per cent and that of permits for public service buildings by 29.9 per cent, the data show.

In April to June, the cubic volume of building permits granted for residential buildings was 3.8 million.

The growth from the corresponding period last year amounted to 0.5 million cubic metres.

The increase was explained almost entirely by the growing cubic volumes of permits for residential blocks of flats.

Building permits were granted for residential building for over 11,300 dwellings, which is 23.1 per cent more than one year earlier.

In April to June, the constant-price value or the volume of ongoing building production went up by 19.4 per cent year-on-year.

The volume of construction of residential buildings increased in the period by 23.2 per cent and that of other than residential building construction by 16.7 per cent as per the statistics.

Measured by volume, 32.5 per cent more of all building projects and 13.4 per cent more residential building projects were started over the same period than one year earlier.
