The City of Pori is putting 2153 employees on unpaid leave, sources at the city corporation said.

The duration of the leave will be from two days to three weeks, and they will occur from October to December.

The city in a statement said that an additional 916 people have chosen voluntary unpaid leave.

Pori aims to save 13 million euros this year. The economic impact of the layoffs is estimated to be approximately 4.7 million euros.

According to the City of Pori, the layoffs affect almost the entire city's personnel and will have an impact on city services.

However, the most vulnerable staff functions, including the Pori basic safety centre, the educa-tion centre and Satakunta Rescue Services, will not be affected.
