More than a fifth of young Finnish men are unemployed and not in school, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Education at a Glance report on comparative education.

According to the report, social exclusion has increased significantly since 2005, when there were just over 12 percent of young men outside education and the workforce.

The growth of social exclusion among Finnish women aged 20-24 has been more moderate. In 2015, just over 15 percent of young women were not working or in school. In OECD countries, the corresponding figures for young men and women are 15.5 percent and 18.5 percent, respectively. Finland is bottom, along with Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal and Spain.

In late July, according to the Ministry of Employment and Economic Development, almost 55,000 young people under age 25 are unemployed in Finland.
