Mon, 03 Oct, 2016 12:39:00 AM Disability pension FTimes-STT Report, Oct 3 File Photo Lehtikuva. There are large differences in the number of disability pension recipients between municipalities in relation to population, reported the Finnish language newspaper Savon Sanomat.
There are also differences for larger regions: for example, in Northern Savo, nearly one in five people of working age are on disability pension.
Those municipalities with the largest proportion of residents receiving disability pensions are Tuusniemi, Rautavaara, and Kaavi.
The municipalities on mainland Finland with the smallest proportion of disability pension recipients are Kauniainen and Espoo.
Age structure and migration explain a great deal of the differences, according to the news report.
The young and healthy tend to move south, leaving an older and more infirm population.
