The Supreme Administrative Court (KHO) on Monday ordered that the national postal and logistic services operator Posti should continue to offer five-day mail distribution service in the Turku archipelago.
According to Posti, the KHO decision will raise postal distribution costs significantly.
The cost of distributing a single letter to the Turku archipelago may reach as much as 200 euros to 500 euros.
Posti now will have to deliver a single postcard to an island, even though there might not be daily scheduled ferry services.
The costs will rise because Posti must purchase additional deliveries to the islands.
