Deferring tax debt recovery

Two tax administration officials have made a complaint to the Chancellor of Justice against their employer.

The reason for the complain is the fact that the tax authorities will in November-December ignore tax debts and transfer them forward for future recovery. In the background of the plan is the introduction of a new information system and related arrangements.

The two complainants fear that the failure to recover tax debts will cause them to pile up and make recovery more difficult later. They also argue that the decision to postpone tax debt recovery may cause an unequal burden on citizens.

The tax authorities justified their recovery plan with the fact that the amount of data to be transferred to the new system is very large. According to the tax authorities, short-term interruption of recovery duties will cause no significant damage.

The national broadcaster Yle previously reported on this matter.
