The Federation of Professional and Managerial Staff (YTN) has expressed disappointment in de-partmental store Stockmann's decision to outsource part of its IT activities to India's Tech Mahindra.

According to YTN, the decision seems to indicate that Stockmann has no real desire to develop its online store, even though it is one of the key success factors for the industry.

“It is inconceivable that the company wouldn't want its own staff expertise involved in the de-velopment [of the online store],” said YTN marketing industry project leader Ville-Veikko Rantamaula.

Stockmann's own IT unit will transfer 33 employees to Tech Mahindra at the beginning of the year. Stockmann will maintain a 40-person strong IT unit.

Through outsourcing, Stockmann hopes to reduce its annual costs by 4 million euros beginning in 2018.

Tech Mahindra is part of India's Mahindra Group.
