The forestry company Stora Enso is closing its corrugated cardboard factory in Heinola and concentrating production in its packaging plant in Lahti.

After codetermination negotiations, the company will lay off 47 employees.

The company estimates that before the consultations, the necessary reduction was about 60 employees.

At the same time, Stora Enso will invest approximately 19 million euros in its Lahti factory in the form of machinery and other infrastructure. The project is scheduled for completion by March 2018.

According to the company, the decision to close the corrugated cardboard factory does not affect the situation of the fluting board factory in Heinola. Corrugated packaging production in the Kristiinankaupunki plant will continue.
