Finland could break the European Union’s fiscal rules next year, according to the EU Commission.

However, the Commission does not see the risks as so serious as to require a new budget plan from Finland next year.

According to Finance Minister Petteri Orpo, the Commission’s assessment is in line with expectations.

“Although the Commission did not ask us for a new budget draft, the situation is still worrying,” Orpo said in a press release.

The Commission recently announced its evaluation of the EU countries’ budget plans.

Finland must provide the Commission with additional information, including the impact of the competitiveness agreement.

Eurozone finance ministers will discuss the Commission’s statements at the beginning of December.

The government of Finland will assess the budgetary situation next spring and, if necessary, according to Orpo, take corrective actions.
