FTimes-STT Report, February 15

The Prime Minister , Jyrki Katainen on Thursday called for bringing an end to the working age discrimination.

Replying to a question in the parliament during the prime minister’s question-hour, Katainen said that the government was just trying to extend the working lives.

The Prime Minister, however, said that the social partners have reached to bring joint proposals to extend working lives as they have the great responsibility in this regard.

The government is expected to reach in a decision about the extension of the working life during the upcoming budget session scheduled for March, the prime minister added.

Earlier, the Prime Minister, on Wednesday urged the Social Organizations to come forward with the common proposals regarding the working lives and extension of the retirement age.

Although the recent move taken by the government and the Social organizations failed to reach to an agreement, the prime minister hoped that the issue would be settled down in future.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Confederation of Finnish Industries, Jyri Häkämies, in the same programme said that the Government should go by the line with the agreement taken place in the last spring.

The CEO hinted that there is no possibility for reaching to an agreement before reviewing the upcoming budget.

The minister for labour, Lauri Ihalainen, however, on February 11 warned the government not to be hurried to take decision regarding extension of the retirement age.
