The president, Sauli Niinistö on Saturday said that Finland and Sweden are pursuing similar defence security policy, although the Swedish government in a report emphasised to probable threat from Russia.
 
Talking to the Yle Saturday breakfast programme, Niinistö pointed out that the Russian threat to Sweden might be related to the major re-structuring in the Swedish defence forces.
 
Sweden made major changes in its defence forces including abolishing regular recruitment process few years back amidst criticism from the citizens.
 
The Finland president also slightly criticised the Swedish authority for its silent role over the recent violation of Swedish airspace by Russian military aircrafts.
 
Six aircrafts of Russian air forces in an air rehearsal carried out artificial attacks in international airspace, very close to Swedish border in March this year, according to media reports. But the Swedish authority remained silent in this regard.
 
Avoiding debate on Finland's non-alignment role, Niinistö  said it is important to observe that how Finland security policy is going on.
 
‘The situation is quite clear. We practice a high degree of cooperation with the Nordic countries and the European Union and NATO partnership,’ Niinistö said.
 
The president also criticized the threats issued to the Swedish speaking Finnish people and termed the incidents as terrible.
 
 Number of Swedish speaking Finnish people recently received hate messages including death threats for speaking in Swedish.
