Country’s defence force is getting three women as captains on Tuesday as the president, Sauli Niinistö is promoting 535 reserve and special officers.
 
It is the first time in the history of defence forces of promoting women in the post of captain.
 
The new appointments of three females in the posts of captain will be made on June 4, said Henrik Gahmberg from General Headquarters last week.
 
The three female officers, scheduled to be promoted as Captains are Lotta Mertsalmi from Hämeenkoski, Tiina Tarra from Tampere and Laura Tiilikainen from Espoo.
 
On the same occasion, Pauli Aalto-Setälä will be promoted to major while Petteri Orpo will be promoted as Captain.
 
Mika Vehviläinen will be promoted to Lieutenant from Marines, sources said.
