FTimes-STT Report June 5
Two chief directors- an incumbent and another former- of the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres) have been accused of fraudulence and negligence of duties.
The accused are former chief director of Lapland, Tapani Pöyry and present chief director of North Ostrhobotnia, Matti Räinä.
According to the charges, Räinä and Pöyry remained absent most of the time while they participated in a five-day conference in Mexico.
They were present in the conference for only two days while during the rest three days they were in vacation.
The accused, however, denied the allegations brought against them, but admitted their absence in the conference.
They claimed that they worked in the conference in different ways.
Following the allegations, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Employment and the Economy are investigating whether the chief director of North Ostrhobotnia, Räinä would be allowed to continue office.
Pöyry already retired from service last year.
