Juha-Pekka Väisänen  was elected as the new chairman of the Finland’s communist party, Suomen Kommunistinen Puolue (SKP).

The party leaders and activists made the new leader at a conference held in Vantaa on Sunday.

The 46-year-old Väisänen has previously been working as party secretary and also as the chairman of PAND-Peace Artist-Union.

Earlier, the party chair Yrjö Hakanen announced that he would not continue as the party chief any more. Since 1994, Hakanen led the party which was established in 1918.

The SKP lost registration due to want of adequate members and votes in two previous polls, but got back the registration after collecting names of required 5000 supporters in December 2011.
