FTimes-STT Report June 21
The authority on Thursday suspended chief director of North Ostrhobotnia Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres) Matti Räinä on charge of breaching rules during a seminar abroad.
Räinä and Tapani Pöyry, another former chief director of ELY in Lapland, reportedly remained absent from most of sessions while they were in a five-day conference in Mexico.
They were present in the conference for only two days while during the rest three days they were in vacation, it was reported. But they denied the charge.
They claimed that they worked in the conference in different ways.
Following the allegations, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Employment and the Economy investigated whether the chief director of North Ostrhobotnia, Räinä would be allowed to continue office. The government suspended Matti Räinä after investigation to take the next course of legal action.
Pöyry retired last year from service.
