FTimes-STT Report, June 25

Members of a well-organised gang from Romania are charged for the incidents of the theft that took place in a steel manufacturing company in Raahe.

The gang allegedly took away 45 tonnes of steel from the factory at Rautaruukki  in Raahe in two phases in November last year and April this year and the gang members were arrested by police  during the second incident.

The case is now under trial at the Ylivieska-Raahe district court where the accused members of the gang were produced on Monday.

The prosecutor lodged charges against 13 people and told the court that some undefined number of people were also involved in the incidents.

The gang members also visited the factory area before committing the thefts and used some unlocked vehicles of the factory parked in the nearby places during the incident.

According to the charges, the thieves took away the steel and transported to Romania in October-November 2012 but when they were taking away the goods again in April, police caught them.

The prosecutor demanded three years imprisonment for each on charge of theft  and additional punishment for four others on charge of money laundering.
