A couple was convicted to conditional imprisonment on Monday for beating a dog and wounding it critically.
Vantaa district court awarded the punishment to the man for one year and the woman for four months of conditional imprisonment for committing outrageous animal protection crime.
The dog was in the care of the woman as its owner was in a student exchange programme. But the man started to beat it with the end of a shotgun when dog had started to bark. The couple was drunk during the assault and beat the dog continuously for a long time till the dog fainted.
The court said that the attack took place for 5-10 minutes. A neighbour had woken up because of the noise and beating sound and called the police.
