The defense authority and the rights organisations expressed opposite views regarding the number of women in the defense forces.

The director of the Defence General Staff Planning Department, Heikki Pohja on Monday said that the number of female in the defense forces is enough.

The authority on Monday made postings for 360 newly recruited female officials.

The director also said that the authority was still trying to attract the females to the military services.

Arto Jokinen from Council for Gender Equality Advisory Board said that the defense forces need more women.

Pointing out the necessity for female officials in peace works, Jokinen said that the women can put better performance in peace activities compared to the men.

Every year about 500 women are recruited in military services.

Earlier, on June 4, country’s defense force got three women as captains and it was the first time in the history of defense forces of promoting women in the post of captain.
