Majority of the people believed that the authority of Church affairs should be withdrawn from the jurisdiction of the interior minister, PäiviRäsänen , said a survey report conducted by a Finnish language newspaper  SavonSanomat.
 
According to the report, 55 percent respondents said that the responsibility of the Church Affairs should be transferred to other than the interior minister, Räsänen, also chief of the Christian Democrats.
 
The survey was conducted following the controversy created among the people over the comment reportedly made by the minister that law could be broken under certain circumstances due to religious beliefs.
 
The newspaper conducted the survey among a total of 1,100 people where most of the people said that the Church Affairs should be shifted from the authority of the minister following the criticism created among the political parties.
 
But 10 percent of the respondents, belonging to the Christian Democrats, wanted the changes in the portfolio of the minister while some of the Centre Party supporters also answered in favour of keeping the system unchanged.
 
The young generation, particularly the residents of the major cities in Helsinki area strongly criticizedRäsänen´s views and opined in favour of shifting the jurisdiction to some other while majority of the senior citizens supported the remark of the minister.
 
Earlier, mob attacked the residence of Interior Minister PäiviRäsänen after her comments related to law and belief.
 
The minister, however, claimed that she got thousands of emails where the majority people expressed solidarity with her remarks.
 
Pointing out the incident of attack on her house, she said that despite objections by various quarter she would be strict on her argument and would continue as the interior minister.
 
Earlier, Foreign Minister ErkkiTuomioja said that civil disobedience cannot be based on Bible, Koran or Mein Kampf.
 
Component of the ruling alliance, National Democratic Party also took opposite stance over the remarks of interior minister.
 
The NDP parliamentary group chief PetteriOrpo demanded that Räisänen should clarify her statement to Prime Minister JyrkiKatainen.
 
The Christian Democrat parliamentary group, however, expressed resentment over the demand of the government’s main ally National Democratic Party.
 
The parliamentary party leader of Christian Democrats, Peter Östman said that the party would not discuss the issue and their leader PäiviRäsänen as there is no necessity for clarifying the issue to the Prime Minister.
 
Päivi  Räsänen recently speaking in an occasion of Lutheran Church also criticized abortion. Räsänen said that animals are better protected than human fetuses.
