Another citizen initiatives bill seeking softening the punishment for online copyright charge is coming to the parliament as the initiative gained the necessary 50,000 signatures of the people on Monday, parliament sources said.

The bill entitled ´Sense in Copyright´ is the third initiatives from the citizen movement to be placed before the House for discussion.

The parliament rejected the two bills- same sex marriage and fur farming- rejected earlier due to lack of adequate support by the lawmakers.

Most of the citizen expressed their supports in favour of the online copyright bill on the  Kansalaisaloite.fi website and demanded amendment in the bill softening the punishment for downloading copyright materials such as music illegally.

The initiatives, however, did not want to abolish the provision of punishment in this regard.

According to the existing law, internet materials piracy is treated as a serious punishable crime and allows police to raid and seize property of the accused. There is provision for realizing big amount of fine from the convicted.

Meanwhile, another citizen initiatives seeking referendum on continuation of Finland´s membership in the European Union was has been foiled due to lack of adequate support from the people.

Earlier, the House rejected the first two bills -ban on fur farming and same sex marriage- brought by the citizen initiatives.

The parliament on May 19 rejected the bill that sought provision to ban fur farming, which activists say a form of cruelty on wild animals.

The bill was placed before the House after the citizen initiative demanded the ban after collecting more than 70,000 signatures in favour of forbidding such farming. The Fur farming industry owners are accused of cruelty on caged animals to produce fur.  The House rejected the bill by 146 votes to 36.

Another proposal for legalization of same-sex marriage was submitted in the parliament in March this year but, was rejected in a narrow margin before placement. The bill is expected to be placed again later this year as the citizens have already collected more than 70,000 signature in favour of the bill.

According to the Act on citizens' initiative, which entered into force in the beginning of March 2012, at least fifty thousand Finnish citizens entitled to vote have the right to submit an initiative for the enactment of an act to the Parliament.
