The ministry of Agriculture and Forest on Tuesday imposed ban on catching Salmon fish in the North Bay as the Finland´s quota for fishing Salmon is being filled-up rapidly.

The ministry sources said that the country’s 70 percent quota stipulated by the European Union has already been completed on Sunday, which prompted the authority to stop the fishing in the sea until further notice.

The Salmon fishing, however, would be continued uninterruptedly in the Bay of Finland, said sources.

The European Council sets quota for the member states specifying the amount of catching Salmon from the North Bay every year.

The ministry also said that the decision was based on the estimated amount of Salmon fishing as it is not possible to figure out the real amount and time.

The ministry made the estimation following the reports of catching and selling fishes as the fishermen submit report after two days of their landing.

Meanwhile, the production of Salmon fishes is expected to be higher in the rivers of the country.

Earlier, Finnish Fisheries Research Institute predicted that huge Salmon fishes will be produced in the Simo and Tornio rivers this year and the size of the fishes will be bigger than normal.

The fishes has been larger in size than normal in Simo river and the biggest Salmon found, so far, was about 135 centimeters and weighed about 25 kilograms.

The Institute said that more than 3000 fishes have returned from the sea to Tornio river within a month while hundreds returned to Simo river.

Last year 61,500 Salmon fishes were produced in Tornio river and 3,630 Salmons in Simo river, the Institute sources said, adding that 15,200 fishes were caught from Tornio river and 100 from Simo river.
