The United Nations Human Rights Council expressed concern over gender discrimination and the rate of violation against women in Finland.
 
Pointing out the difference between the salaries of men and women at the work places, the council in a report, released on Thursday, also criticized the state of women in the country.
 
The council recommended that the situation of the shelters for the victims of violence should be improved as presently a number of people are accommodated in adequate space at the Metsälä detention Centre in Helsinki. It also termed the space of police custody adequate.
 
Finland should develop options for detention centers and improve the conditions of Metsälä, said the report.
 
Earlier on June 13, the European Union in survey report, Finland ranked third in terms of gender equality among 27 members states.
 
According to European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE), Sweden topped the list of gender equality index followed by Denmark. The survey report was published on Thursday.
 
The index measures equality on a scale of 1-100 in which Finland secured 73.4 points while Sweden and Denmark got 74.3 and 73.6 points respectively.
 
Gender equality in Romania and Bulgaria, among the EU countries, is considered shocking as these countries remain on the bottom of the list with 35.3 and 37.0 points respectively.
