A man sustained bullet wounds when police fired gunshot at his leg in a move to seize the gun from him and arrested the man from a nearby area of Oulu police station late Sunday night.

Police said that the incident took place at about 10:30 pm when the 37 years old man threatened the police claiming that he was bearing a handmade gun and would fire at them, but it turned out to be a fake firearm that looked like a pistol.

Police cordoned the area for about an hour and asked the man to surrender, but he did not pay heed to the police order. At one stage police fired one round gunshot at his leg when he aimed the fake gun at police.

Police later arrested the bullet wounded person on charge of assault and found that the gun was not a real one.

Police said that the injury is not life threatening for him.

Head of the investigation Antti Räsänen said that firing of the gunshot by police was not a crime as the motive of the fire was clear.

The police prosecutor will make final decision within next few days in this regard.

Earlier, police on June 9 shot a man who was messing around with a gun in a popular fairway, Baana in Helsinki centre area.

The man was in a confused state and did not want to surrender the gun. Police fired gunshot at the man and he was taken to hospital.
