Several hundred people try to enter into Finland every year with forged passports in cooperation with well-organised gangs, MTV3 reported on Sunday quoting immigration sources.
The immigration authorities seized on an average 200 to 300 fake passports every year when the passport holders try to cross the immigration at Helsinki airport, sources said.
Most of the people, caught with counterfeit passports at the airport immigration in the recent years had come from the problem prone countries in Middle East, said the report, adding that that the number of arrival of Syrian people with fake passports has increased significantly in the recent period.
“The fake passport holders mainly use Finland as a transit point because it is easier for them to move to other countries from here,” an official of South-East border guards unit, Major Mikko Lehmus told MTV3, adding that well-organised gangs were involved in sending people abroad with fake passports.
Terming the move to travel with fake passport as a crime, Lehmus said that the accused could be fined thousands of Euro for such crime. More News
