A 12-year-old schoolboy was killed when a private car crushed him under the wheels at Hukkajärvetie area in Kuhmo on late Monday night.
Police said that the accident took place when two boys were riding bicycles side by side.
One of the boys moved to the nearby main road and that is when a speeding car knocked him down from behind. He died on the spot.
Kainu police said on Tuesday that the car came from behind and did not have enough time to save the boy as the speed limit of the road was 80 kilometres per hour.
The man driving the car was 68 years old and police was investigating the incident, sources said.
