FTimes-STT Report, August 9

Although the coalition government cut salary of the ministers and their special assistants by five percent in 2011, the salary will remain same this year, according to the draft budget of the year 2014 prepared by the Finance Minister on Wednesday.

The number of the 19 ministers and 35 assistants, however, would remain same in the next year and the annual budget for their salaries has been fixed at EUR 5.7 million for the year 2014.

“The government in 2011 saved EUR two million by cutting the salary of the ministers and assistants by five percent,” departmental head of the Prime Minister office Auni-Marja Vilavaara told STT.

According to the present structure, the monthly salary of a minister is EUR 9729 while the salary of the Prime Minister is EUR 11,675.

Earlier on February 27, the Parliament approved the bill brought proposing reduction of the remuneration of the President of the Republic.

The new Act was enacted following the proposal of the president to cut the president's pay from the current EUR 160,000 to EUR 126,000.
