The ongoing drive of the defence forces to recover explosive substances that remained hidden under soil since the Second World War will continue till October.

The defence forces during its drive from 2007 to 2011 recovered 30,000 explosive substances from northern parts of the country, and again undertook the drive in spring this year to make the country’s soil free from explosive substances.

The recovery drive has now reached to different parts of Lapland and Northern Finland and expected to be cleared by the end of October.

Terming the explosive clearing works as lengthy process, the defence officials said that the complete recovery of the explosive substances from all over the country would need more drives in future.

It took seven years to make only Pudasjärvi area free from explosive substances, said sources, adding that seven areas in Northern Finland have been made explosive substances free during the outgoing summer.

Besides this, the defence authority is also extending cooperation to police from 70 times to 80 times a year to recover explosive substances from inside the ground.
